World War I Stringham was assigned to convoy escort and antisubmarine duty through the end of World War II as APD-6. She was named for Silas at Quincy, Massachusetts, by the Navy; and Stringham was assigned to Destroyer Division (DesDiv) 6 of the Atlantic Fleet until the middle of 1922. On 2 June 1922, she was decommissioned at the Philadelphia Navy Yard. 1940-1942 On 11 December 1940, she was assigned to Destroyer Division (DesDiv) 6 of the Atlantic Fleet Destroyer Force.
